First week of school

Well, the trip to Mexico was awesome to say the least. We did have a few bumps in the road but nothing too bad. We had a blast hanging out with Chris' friend Kenny and his girlfriend Kelly. After a long day at Six Flags, we went out to dinner that night at a restaurant called Claim Jumper. It was really yummy and I am pretty sure I could make millions if I opened one up in this area. The next day they dropped us off at the loading dock for the cruise. We were able to check our luggage but we didn't have a boarding pass like all of the other passengers. Luckily it wasn't a problem.

The first day on the water, Chris and I somehow forgot to put on sunscreen. Needless to say, our Oregon bodies did not do well with the sun. We both got fried and spent the next few days suffering. Our first port was Puerto Vallarta where we swam with dolphins. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. It was an experience of a lifetime and something we will never forget. We spent way too much money on a DVD and pictures of our experience, but it was well worth it. Unfortunately it did rain a bit at this port and our next port, Mazatlan, but it didn't affect us too much. In Mazatlan, we rode ATVs on a little island called Stone Island. The "island" was really beautiful but it was a little shocking to see the living conditions that the locals live in. Our final stop was Cabo San Lucas. This was probably my favorite port in Mexico. We walked to the beach and spent the day playing in the water and riding jet skis. It was very fun although we had to head back to the ship pretty early in the afternoon. We ate dinner with two other couples every night. One couple was from Salem and actually had quite a bit in common with Chris and myself. We ended up hanging out with them a bunch on the ship and in Cabo.

Chris and I did happen to catch some colds while on vacation. Unfortunately, I think I am still a little bit sick. We were surprised to find out that you can buy an prescription medication over-the-counter in Mexico. When Chris gets a sore throat, it usually turns into tonsilitis or strep. He has found out that Augmenten is something that usually helps. We were able to buy some ashore which I think prevented him from getting really sick. On the way home, we ran into a little bit of trouble as well. Our flight from Seattle from Eugene was cancelled due to technical maintenance. In LA, we were offered a flight to Portland and then Eugene that left earlier and would put us in Eugene earlier, or a flight straight to Eugene from LA that left at 9 pm. We chose to fly to Portland first but were warned that the flight to Eugene could be cancelled as well. After waiting in the Portland airport for 3 hours and right before we were supposed to start boarding, we found out that our flight had been cancelled again! They were either going to shuttle us home on a bus or put us in a hotel. Chris and I were annoyed and so we decided to get a refund on our tickets and rent a car to drive home. We were able to pair up with a fellow passenger and his daughter and split the cost of the car. Despite a few minor setbacks, Chris and I had a blast on our vacation.

Well, it has been 3 days now since I have started nursing school. So far, so good. I have been doing a good job keeping up on the endless amounts of reading. I just can't believe that I am finally in nursing school. I haven't leaned a whole lot yet but next week I will start working in the nursing home for 3 weeks which should be educations. I will keep ya'll updated on that!

Well, I think that is all for now. Chris and I finally put together our desk last night so no more typing on the ground. Tootles!

Only one more day!

Oh man am I ever excited! One more day until we head down to Cali for our cruise! Today I worked for half a day and it went very smoothly. Then I went home to start my endless list of chores. The house has to be spotless before I leave because coming home to a messy house after a vacation is the worst thing ever!
Tomorrow we start the day bright and early by flying out of Eugene at 6 am. We fly into LA about 8 am where Chris' friend Kenny will pick us up. Then it is off to 6 flags for a day of fun! We board the ship at 4 pm on Sunday. I can hardly stand the excitement!
When we get home, I will only have 4 more days of work until I start school. Then I will be dropping down to one day a week. I have pretty much everything ready to go for school. I am antsy to start as I have been looking forward to this program for quite some time.
This is going to be a really short blog since I still have lots to do! I will be sure to update you all on our trip when we get back! Adios!

It has been awhile

Well, I know it has been a really long time since I have updated my blog. Sorry about that. I guess I have just been occupying my time elsewhere. First off, I would like to thank everyone for all of their love and support. This last week has been pretty crazy but Chris and I are getting through it. We are planning on heading to Portland on Tuesday to meet with the psychologist before Chris goes back to work. We definitely did not expect something like to happen but friends and family are making it easier to cope.

On a happier note, only 3 more weeks until we leave for our vacation! I am getting really excited and can't wait for a change of pace. After we get back, I will only have one more week until I start school! I am getting pretty excited. I turned in all of my paperwork and bought a new backpack and stethoscope. Little things like that really get me excited.

On Friday night we went to the Lane County Fair with the fam. It was so cute watching Hunter finally be able to ride some rides this year! He had so much fun and looked like such a big boy. Chris took him up for one of the rides and it just warmed my heart. It makes me excited to see him as a father (in a couple years, don't worry).

Well, I think that is pretty much all. I need to get started on some laundry and we need to do some yard work before our bbq this Saturday. It should be lots of fun to see all of our friends.

9 months down, 70 years to go

As of yesterday, Chris and I have been married for 9 months. I always joke around with him and tell him that I can't believe we have made it this far. We also finalized our cruise plans yesterday as well and bought our plane tickets. We are going to fly down to LA a day early and spend some time with one of Chris' high school friends, Kenny, who lives down there. The plan is for us all to spend the day at Six Flags! Wahoo!

Last night I went on my third ride-a-long with Chris. I t hink I am jinxed because nothing exciting every happens when I ride with him. Maybe that is a good thing though. The last time I rode with him there was a shooting in Springfield, but I didn't see anything and I ended up having John, my brother-in-law, come and pick me up so I wasn't bored the whole night. I did have my first transport put in the back of the cop car. Too bad it was a 13 year old girl who Chris was giving a courtesy ride home to. Oh well. I am still a little scared to have a real criminal in the back of the car.

Last week at work I was able to observe my doctor perform a few procedures. I was able to watch some epidural steroid injections, a discogram, and a radiofrequency ablation procedure. It was very interesting, especially since I might be working over at the surgery center in the future.

Well, that is pretty much it. I am looking forward to going camping in 2 weeks. Other than that, I am still trying to get everything accomplished that I need to for nursing school. I am having a really basic physical this week and I am going to go our to LCC to change my name (since I finally got my new Social Security Card) as well as apply for some student loans. Feel free to leave me comments too!

It is already Tuesday. Yessss! Hopefully this week will go by as fast as last week. Last week was great having the 4th of July off in the middle of the week. Speaking of the 4th, we had a blast celebrating at my parents' house. We had tons of people over for a fun-filled day of bbqing and games games games! Although I thought it was too hot outside to play badmitton, we made up for it with board games inside. We started off with Scattergories and then moved right into Cranium. The mother-in-law was on my team by we didn't do too hot. To our defense, my Aunt Susie and sister did get all of the easy questions. After games, we went over to watch the Eugene Emeralds play a little baseball. This has turned into a tradition for our family and after the game, they let all of the spectators onto the field to watch fireworks. Hunter kept saying "There it is" for every firework. It was too cute. This is where I would insert photos if I knew how to. I will have to do some researching on how everything works on here.

Today Chris had to take our baby kitty, Henry, to the vet. We suspected he had a urinary tract infection. Trey got one so bad last year that he had crystals form in his urethra. He stopped eating (which is odd because he loves to eat) and he had to go to the vet twice. We ended up having to give him IVs everynight and now all of the cats are on expensive prescription urinary health cat food. I noticed Henry had been licking himself a lot lately but didn't think too much of it. He does need to be neutered soon so I thought that might have had something to do with it. Then last night I noticed him just sitting in the cat box. Initially I didn't think anything of it either since he used to play in the cat box. Anyway, he was straining to go the bathroom and that is when the lightbulb clicked. Chris took him to the vet today and he does have a UTI, but we just need to feed him wet cat food for awhile and that apparently should do the trick. Whew!

Well, that is pretty much everything exciting that has happened since I last wrote. Maybe something else will happen soon so I have better things to write about than my cat's UTI haha.

My first blog

After reading other people's blogs for months and thoroughly enjoying them, I have decided that it is time to make my own blog. Not only does it sound fun, but I think it will be a good way for friends and family to stay updated on my life, even when I'm busy. So, here we go!

I am busy preparing everything I need to begin nursing school at Lane Communuty College in the fall. I just ordered my royal blue scrubs that will be embroidered with LCC Nursing Student, bought my own pair of bandage scissors, and applied for my name change through Social Security. Now I know you are thinking that I have been married for almost 9 months and should have changed my name through SS a long time ago. Well, I needed this to kick me in the pants to get the ball rolling. I can't change my name through LCC without a SS card and I also have to have a background check done. I would think it would look a little fishy if I claimed one name and then had a different name listed for SS. I would rather not take any chances. I also have to retake my CPR class. I was recently re-certified for adult CPR at work but I need child and infant for school. So, I have quite the list of things to do but I am still pretty excited.

In September, Chris and I are going on a Mexican Riviera cruise for our one year anniversary. We purposely planned it in September instead of October just in case I did get into nursing school. Good thing! We still have to buy our plane tickets and are trying to figure out if there will be a shuttle to take us from the airport to the dock or not. Chris' friend Jake and his new wife Tiffany just got back from the exact same cruise a week or two ago that they went on for their honeymoon. Chris is planning on racking Jake's brain for more information.

Well, that is pretty much all I have for now. Chris and I just went on a 40 minute bike ride which was fun. I always like to exercise with him. I hope to get some house work done today while Chris is at work but we will see :)
